Some sessions just make you smile and Ayden’s session was one of them.
I hadn’t photographed Ayden in a few years, and honestly – I was not prepared for how much he’d grown. The last time I saw him, he was so little. This time, he walked up looking like a full-on kid – confident, composed, and rocking a green Adidas tee with matching shoes.
If you’re a Mankato – area mom searching for a child portrait photographer who can actually capture who your kid really is, not just a stiff pose and a forced smile, I hope this session gives you a feel for what we do here.
Here’s what I knew within the first five minutes: Ayden is a guy’s guy. He’s playing baseball and clarinet (which, by the way, is the coolest combination – athletic and musical? Yes, please). He carries himself with this quiet, low-key confidence that made him an absolute natural in front of the camera.
He wasn’t going to give me goofy grins on command. And honestly? I love that. The serious, thoughtful look? That’s just as much him as anything else.
But I’ll let you in on a little secret, he did smirk at a couple of my jokes. Just a couple. I’m counting it as a win. 😉
Those little smirks, the casual lean against the stone wall, the hands-in-pockets stance — that’s Ayden. That’s who his family is going to look back at in 20 years and say, yep, that was him.
I say this all the time, but kids change fast. This session with Ayden is proof. A few years pass, and suddenly the little boy you remember is this composed, athletic, baseball-playing kid who barely flinched in front of the camera.
A portrait session isn’t just about getting a nice photo for the wall, though you will absolutely get that. It’s about documenting this season. This age. This version of your child who won’t exist in quite the same way ever again.
Whether your kiddo is turning 1 or 17 or anywhere in between, outdoor portraits are one of my favorite things to offer. Thanks for the fun session Ayden and here’s to a wonderful year ahead on the baseball field, in the orchestra room, and everywhere in between!
