Personality Portraits: Quick 10-Minute Studio Sessions for Kids

The toddler who used to babble now tells you stories. The baby who couldn’t sit up is suddenly climbing everything in sight. Childhood changes in the blink of an eye — and Personality Portraits are my way of helping you hold onto exactly who your child is right now.

These quick, classic sessions here at the studio in Eagle Lake are some of my favorite hours of the whole year. No busy props, no long sessions, no pressure on anyone to be perfect. Just ten minutes, a clean white background, and your child being completely themselves.

Our last Personality Portrait day of the year is Saturday, November 7th, and there are only 8 spots. Here’s everything you need to know.

What a Personality Portrait session looks like

Ten minutes might not sound like much, but you’d be surprised what we can get done.

I’ll probably ask to see some muscles. We’ll find out how high they can jump. They’ll show me their very best silly face. And somewhere in the middle of all that, we get the belly laugh — the full-blown, eyes-scrunched, can’t-help-it smile. The real them.

Shy kids are welcome too. Some of my favorite portraits are the quiet ones — the half-smile, the curious look right before they decide I’m okay. I give every child room to warm up, and I never force a smile.

The session is designed for one child. If you have more than one, you can book one combined session with your kids together, or separate sessions if one of them needs a little more time to warm up.

After your session, you’ll get a private online gallery with images in both color and black & white. You choose your favorites and order right from the gallery.

What should my child wear?

The simplest answer: whatever feels most like them. A few things that look beautiful on a white background:

  • Solid colors or soft textures. Sweaters, henleys, and simple knits photograph wonderfully.
  • Jeans or neutral pants. They let the face stay the star.
  • Skip big logos and characters. They pull the eye away from your child’s expression.
  • Comfort wins. A happy kid in a favorite sweater beats an unhappy kid in a stiff outfit every time.

A good nap and a snack before you come help more than anything you put in the outfit bag.

Bring the thing that makes them them

This is my favorite part of Personality Portraits. Your child is welcome to bring one small item that shows a little of who they are right now.

The well-loved stuffed bunny. The ball glove. The book you’ve read 400 times. The toy truck that goes everywhere. These are the details you’ll forget faster than you think, and having them in a portrait tells the story of this exact season.

Keep it small enough for little hands to hold, and skip anything that hides the face.

Holiday gift ideas from your Personality Portraits

With galleries delivered in November, these portraits make some of the sweetest gifts on your list. (Grandma doesn’t want another candle this year.)

  • Wallets for grandparents, aunts, and uncles — perfect for tucking into cards
  • 5×7 or 8×10 prints — ready for a frame on a desk or end table
  • A wall print or canvas — a gift for your own home that grows more precious every year
  • Digital collections — choose 2, 3, 5, 10, or the full gallery with a print release to print and share your own

To have your prints home before Christmas, place your order by November 30th.

Why classic portraits on white?

Trends come and go, but a simple portrait on a clean background never looks dated. In twenty years, you won’t be looking at the backdrop. You’ll be looking at that grin, those cheeks, and the little personality you’ll never quite get back.

That’s what these sessions are for: capturing this version of them before it becomes a memory.
