The Big Move!

Almost 11 months later we are homeowners again! Adam and I closed on our new home/studio in Eagle Lake, MN the end of April and couldn’t be more thrilled!

In early 2016 we had decided to pack up and move to the Mankato MN area. My business has continued to grow here in MN and I’ve had some new opportunities in the Twin Cities. Eagle Lake is in-between both our families and we have several friends in this area so it seemed to be the perfect place. We hunted for months, looking at homes on the market and were unsuccessful at finding a home that would accommodate a studio/work area for me and a man cave area for Adam. After deciding on building, the hunt continued, now looking for land to build on and a contractor.

In the meantime, we put our current home in Mason City on the market-we listed it ourselves just to see what interest there would be. At that time there were other homes in our area that had been on the market for awhile, so we assumed it would be a few months but to our surprise, within a week we had two offers and it was sold at asking price a week later– Crazy!

We closed on that house in June, moved the majority of our belongings to storage and moved in with the parents. Since Adam was still working in Mason City and this was the midst of my busy season in MN we were back to seeing each other a couple times a month.

Looking back at the last year and a half I can say I am once again amazed at the timing of when things happen, how everything in our lives happens for a reason and at the right time. It’s not always on our timeline but once you see the complete picture it makes perfect sense.

After interviewing many contractors and hunting for a lot to build on we sort of stumbled across Dauk Construction of Eagle Lake. Chris, our contractor, owned the lot where our house now sits, he builds custom homes (exactly what we wanted), and he couldn’t have been a more perfect fit for us! The contracts were signed in July and the building adventure began!

We knew it would be stressful going into this, especially living apart and at a distance from the new home site. But we made it work (we even agreed on 90% of the decisions!) and we couldn’t be happier with our new home! I know Adam is excited about his man cave area and I can’t wait to photograph in the new studio with those huge windows and all the natural light!
